How to unlock your domain and get the transfer code

  1. Sign in, open Domain Portfolio and select the domain.
  2. Under Transfer choose Transfer to Another Registrar, then Continue with transfer.
  3. Enter the verification code if asked — note that Domain Privacy is turned off at this step.
  4. Select Click here to see Authorization Code and copy it.

How to transfer your domain

  1. Unlock the domain & get the transfer code

    From your current registrar, unlock the domain and copy the transfer (EPP / Auth) code.

  2. Start the transfer with us

    Enter the domain and transfer code on the transfer page and pay one year — it is usually added on top of your remaining term.

  3. Approve the transfer email

    You may receive an authorization (FOA) email at the registrant address — approving it speeds the transfer up.

  4. Done

    Transfers usually complete in 5–7 days; the domain appears in your account and later renewals are at a price shown before you pay.

Frequently asked questions

Do I lose the time left on my domain when I transfer?

Usually not — for .com, .net and .org a transfer adds a year on top of the remaining term. The exception is a domain that has expired or entered its grace period, which is why we never offer a transfer for an expired domain.

How long does a domain transfer take?

Usually 5 to 7 days — sooner if you approve the transfer email quickly.

Whose name will the domain be in after the transfer?

Once the transfer completes, you can set the domain owner (registrant) details to your own name from the domain page in your account. The registrar may send a confirmation email to the new address.

Will my website or email stop during the transfer?

Not as long as you leave the nameservers and DNS settings unchanged — a transfer only moves the domain management.
